Description
About artist: Brian Fay’s practice is rooted in drawing and he uses the materiality of pre-existing artworks to examine our complex relationship to time. His work is in the collections of The National Gallery of Ireland, The Irish National Drawing Collection, the Arts Council, Crawford Art Gallery, OPW and private collections. In 2014 he won the Derwent International Drawing Prize and the RHA AXA Drawing Prize in 2016. He undertook a residency at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Connecticut, USA in 2022. He recently completed an Arts Council funded national touring survey solo show from Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda, Limerick City Gallery of Art to Uillinn, Cork. He is a studio member of Temple Bar Gallery and Studios.
About artwork: This is a pencil drawing based on the restoration of Cimabue's Crucifixion which was damaged in the Florence floods of 1966. I was interested in the idea that Cimabue's work was treated with such care that was akin to the treatment of an actual person.
